Joshua Zirkzee has endured a difficult spell since arriving at Manchester United.

Arriving from Bologna for a fee of £36.5 million in the summer of 2024, Zirkzee arrived with a lot of hope from United fans.

This was only amplified when he came off the bench on his debut and scored the winner against Fulham on the opening game.

However, that was the best it has gotten for Zirkzee, with just eight goals in all competitions since.

His stats also read four Premier League goals in 42 appearances in the competitions.

He has struggled for gametime at United and the sacking of Erik ten Hag, who signed him at the club, did him no favours.

United signed Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to their attacking room.

This was the beginning of the end for Zirkzee at United.

GiveMeSport have reported via Gazzetta dello Sport, that Zirkzee is all set for a move to AS Roma.

It is being reported as a ‘done deal’ and negotiations are said to be reaching a closing stage.

With Evan Ferguson’s loan deal from Brighton and Hove Albion to Roma at risk of being terminated after a difficult spell for the Irishman in Serie A, with just one league goal recorded and public criticism from head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

Zirkzee appears to be the man Gasperini wants to replace Ferguson in Roma’s attack as they look to build on their start to the season that sees them currently in fourth place in the Serie A table.

Serie A is no stranger to Zirkzee, who earned a move to Man United after impressing with Bologna.

The former Bayern Munich striker scored 11 goals in 34 Serie A appearances in the 2023/24 season and a move back to the league might do him the world of good after a tough period in English football for the Netherlands international.
