Aston Villa and Como have emerged as the favourites to sign Real Betis winger Jesus Rodriguez, after an impressive debut season has seen the 19-year-old dubbed ‘the new Joaquin’.

According to what has been reported by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, via TuttoMercatoWeb , Unai Emery’s Villa and Cesc Fabregas’ Como have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign Rodriguez.

Jesus Rodriguez is currently with the Spain U-21 national team as they seek European Under-21 Championship glory – meaning any potential move will likely come after the tournament has concluded.

‘The new Joaquin’ – Jesus Rodriguez release clause must be met

The reports from Spain confirm that Betis are only prepared to sell the youngster if his €35 million release clause is met, after a strong campaign in which the winger scored three and assisted twice in 32 matches in all competitions.

This release clause is unlikely to deter any interested parties who are eager to sign the Spanish youth international, who featured in Betis’ UEFA Conference League final defeat to Chelsea as a second-half substitute.
