Manchester United are continuing their squad rebuild this summer as they aim to return to the top, with it being 13 years since their last Premier League title.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe was relatively realistic when taking over at Old Trafford, claiming that it would take the club six transfer windows to be consistently competing at the top level.
Last summer saw an attacking rebuild as Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo joined as proven Premier League stars, with Benjamin Sesko coming in as a new first-choice striker.
However, the club aren’t finished revitalising their attack, as a new left winger is also on the cards for this summer.
While United have been linked with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, another name from Aston Villa is also on the cards.
La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Manchester United hold Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers as their first-choice target for the left-wing role this summer.
The aim is to sign a new winger who can rotate with Matheus Cunha on the left, with Rogers’ Premier League experience fitting in with United’s recent transfer strategy.
Although primarily an attacking midfielder, Rogers is versatile enough to play on the left or right wings, having taken to the left 16 times this season, grabbing five goals and four assists, including in United’s 2-1 loss to Villa at Villa Park.
However, the Italian outlet also reports that Aston Villa want “twice the €50 million figure” that AC Milan want for Leao, putting his valuation at £86 million (€100 million).
This aligns with the price tag RB Leipzig have put on Yan Diomande, making Rafael Leao the cheaper option of the three, however, Rogers is the only one with Premier League experience.
While that isn’t the be all and end all of the United transfer strategy, with Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens both making their Premier League debut at Old Trafford this season, it does give Morgan Rogers the edge going into the summer.
