Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez ended up with a 20th-place finish in this year’s Ballon d’Or rankings.
According to FCInterNews, El Toro placed five spots ahead of his teammate Denzel Dumfries, who came in 25th.
Despite reaching the Champions League final, Lautaro Martinez performed worse last season than in 2023/24.
Indeed, he broke into the top ten in last year’s ranking, yet he slipped to 20th this time.
It was due to Inter’s collapse in the Champions League final and a runner-up finish in Serie A.
After a seventh-place finish in 2024, the 28-year-old has had to settle for his second 20th-place finish in three years.
Meanwhile, Denzel Dumfries was also among the nominees, though he never stood a chance of claiming the award.
However, the Dutch wingback had a remarkable 2024/25 campaign.
Indeed, he was nothing short of spectacular in Inter’s Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona.
Therefore, he finished above the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Erling Haaland, among others.
