The first El Clasico of the season in two weeks’ away, but Barcelona are going into it with a number of injury concerns. Joan Garcia will definitely miss out, while there are doubts over the likes of Raphinha, Fermin Lopez and Dani Olmo. However, there is better news in the case of Lamine Yamal.

In the aftermath of Barcelona’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, it was confirmed that Lamine Yamal had suffered a relapse of the pubis injury he initially sustained earlier in September. He was ruled out of last weekend’s devastating loss at Sevilla, while he also misses both of Spain’s World Cup qualifiers.

However, there is hope that he will be back next weekend for Barcelona’s match against Girona, and according to Diario AS, it is now taken for granted that Lamine Yamal will receive the medical green light in order to play in the Catalan derby – barring any setbacks in his recovery.

Training return to take place on Wednesday

So far, Lamine Yamal’s recovery has gone by without a hitch, and the hope is that this will remain the case up until next weekend. The idea is for him to be involved in training with his Barcelona teammates on Wednesday, ahead of featuring against Girona as a substitute.

As long as Lamine Yamal suffers no adverse effects after playing against Girona, the plan is for him to start against Olympiacos in Barcelona’s next Champions League match a few days later. He would feature for 65-70 minutes on that occasion, which should leave him in good stead to play without restrictions in against Real Madrid in El Clasico.

Barcelona will be desperate to have Lamine Yamal available for the trip to the Santiago Bernabeu, as their chances of continuing their unbeaten streak in El Clasico will increase as long as he is able to play.
