Barcelona are hot of their latest LaLiga title win, becoming back-to-back champions once again, being a fine end for the loan spell of Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.
The England international has been vital for Hansi Flick’s side, covering the injuries of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, scoring 14 goals and grabbing 14 assists in 49 games.
As such, the attacker was hopeful that his optional buy clause for £26 million would be triggered, seeing his permanent move to Camp Nou.
Previously Flick gave his green light to the move, however the club we not keen to pay the full £26 million, wanting instead to negotiate with United for a lower fee or a second loan-spell.
The Red Devils however haven’t been willing to entertain the idea, given his key role for Barca’s success, and having already dropped the fee from the £40 million Aston Villa were offered for the summer before.
Now however, Barcelona’s transfer business is suggesting they are looking to move away from Rashford, with Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon being signed for £70 million.
While one reported claimed this hasn’t killed Rashford’s hopes, RAC 1 is now reporting that Marcus Rashford is no longer in Barcelona’s plans.
The Catalan giants are understood to see Gordon as an upgrade to Rashford on the pitch, and with a significantly cheaper wage.
His only real chance of remaining is to fit into the hole left by Robert Lewandowski’s departure, however Barcelona are looking to Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid for that role, having tabled an £87 million bid for the striker.
Alongside him, Bernardo Silva is understood to be closing in on a free transfer to move to Camp Nou, adding another option to Flick’s attack.
