Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is reportedly set to join Barcelona F.C. on a free transfer, according to ESPN's James Olley.
Aubameyang, 32, has been with Arsenal since 2018, but his relationship with the club has deteriorated. He was stripped of his captaincy in December and the team has reportedly been on the hunt for a way to offload his lofty salary. Arsenal found a taker in Barcelona, although Olley says Aubameyang will take a pay cut to join the Spanish club.
The Gabonese player began his club career at the senior level with AC Milan in 2008, although he never appeared with the team and instead played on loan for three different French clubs. In 2011, he joined Saint-Étienne of Ligue 1 and then in 2013 he joined Borussia Dortmund of the Bundesliga. Aubameyang scored 98 goals in 144 appearances with Borussia Dortmund and he's scored 68 in 128 appearances with Arsenal.
Aubameyang has also had a very successful international career as the captain of the Gabon national team. He's made 72 appearances with the club and scored 30 goals.
Barcelona is currently fifth in La Liga, 15 points behind Real Madrid for first place.
