Marco Baroni said Lazio have no regrets about their season, stressing that even missing out on Champions League qualification wouldn’t diminish the team’s journey.

The Lazio coach was sent off for dissent alongside Inter manager Simone Inzaghi in the closing stages of their side’s 2-2 draw at the San Siro, though the two ultimately watched the remainder of the match side by side from the sidelines.

“I’m sorry for the red cards for both myself and Inzaghi,” Marco Baroni told reporters at a post match press conference.

“He’s an incredible coach and does something extraordinary. I saw the entire bench stand up and I said they couldn’t do that. However, I don’t think either of us deserved to be sent off — we even watched the rest of the match together.”

Baroni: Pedro is a model, Lazio will believe until last second

Lazio will head into the final Serie A round in sixth place, two points behind Juventus—are they regretting the points dropped earlier in the season?

“When you give everything, it’s not like that,” he added.

“We still have one match left, and it doesn’t take away from the team’s journey. I congratulated the boys because Inter have everything: strength, structure, quality.

“We needed to stay in the game, but we went behind undeservedly, beyond Isaksen’s chance.

“I don’t change my football ideals. I thank those who gave me this opportunity because I give — and I’m giving — my all.

“This is a league that is highly competitive. I believe the points average needed for Europe is 67. I focus on the team’s path, and we still believe until the very last second.”

Finally, Baroni heaped praise on Pedro, who proved decisive for his side.

“Until last Sunday, we had the third-best attack in the league,” the coach continued.

“Pedro had slipped a bit out of the picture, and I put him back at the heart of the project because he’s a model professional who always gives everything.

“Just to show you how great he is: he had a small tendon problem and understood maybe he should only come on during the game. A player like that is a model.”
