Bayern Munich Makes Shocking Attempt On Liverpool Forward

It is shaping up to be a statement summer for Liverpool, and the latest twist has taken fans by surprise. Bayern Munich has reportedly stepped up its pursuit of Luis Díaz, with talks progressing to the point where concrete numbers are being discussed. According to BILD, Bayern’s interest in the Colombian winger has become very serious.  It is now at the stage of serious negotiations, with a formal offer said to be in the works.

This unexpected development comes just weeks after Díaz expressed his happiness at Anfield, saying he was “very happy” at the club following Liverpool’s Premier League title triumph. Yet despite his public contentment and two years still left on his current deal, the noise around his future refuses to go away. Strong early links to Barcelona had already produced speculation, but now it’s Bayern who’ve come into the race.

Luis Díaz has been a key figure for Liverpool since joining from FC Porto in January 2022. Last season was arguably his best in a red shirt, with 17 goals and five assists in 50 appearances across all competitions. His direct, aggressive style and flair on the ball played a huge part in the club’s return to the top of English football. With 41 goals in 148 games overall for the Reds, it clearly shows the 28-year-old is also a goal threat from out wide.

Bayern’s Intentions Are Clear

Bayern’s interest in Díaz is very real and reflects a growing sense of urgency at the German club. They’re preparing for life after Leroy Sané, whose time at the Allianz Arena came to an end after he became a free agent and signed for Galatasaray. After missing out on their top target, Florian Wirtz, Bayern’s focus has shifted to proven wide players, and Díaz fits that bill perfectly. They’ve been looking at a left-sided winger since the window opened with growing interest in the likes of Nico Williams, Rafael Leao, and now Luiz Diaz.

Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, is understood to have reached out to both Liverpool and Díaz’s representatives in recent weeks. Reports suggest that a formal bid is imminent, though the details are still under wraps. What’s clear is that Bayern are serious. They want Díaz, and they’re willing to spend big to get him.

The estimated value of the Colombian winger is thought to be in the €70 million range, though with his contract running until 2027, Liverpool are in a strong position. They’re under no pressure to sell, and initial reports suggest they’ve already made it clear to Bayern that Díaz is not for sale.

Liverpool Is Unlikely To Budge

Liverpool’s stance so far has been firm. The club views Díaz as an essential part of Arne Slot’s plans moving forward, especially after such a productive 2024-25 campaign. The idea of letting him go, particularly to a European rival like Bayern or Barca, seems unlikely unless a truly irresistible offer comes in.

According to sources close to the club, Slot has no intention of cashing in on one of his most reliable attackers. That said, every player has their price, and with Liverpool exploring moves of their own this summer, a significant sale could free up funds for new additions. That’s the only scenario where a transfer might make sense for the Reds.

For Díaz himself, there’s no indication he’s pushing for a move. Those close to him say he’s happy on Merseyside, and the club’s recent success has only strengthened his bond with the fans. Still, as we’ve seen time and time again in modern football, things can change quickly when big money is on the table.

Final Thoughts

At this stage, it is too early to say whether Díaz will be wearing a Bayern shirt next season. Liverpool remain in control, and the player himself isn’t agitating for a move. But as the window unfolds, this is one story that could take a few more turns. If Bayern wants him, they’ll need to break the bank. And if Liverpool are tempted, it’ll signal a bold shift in their summer strategy. Bayern would have to face strong competition from Barcelona for the Colombian. With the Nico Williams deal yet again at a halt, Barca would shift the focus back to their long-standing transfer target of the summer.
