'Being on the phone all the time,' Carlos Alcaraz’s coach and former world no. 1 outlines generational gap pooling in Holger Rune and Jannik Sinner with the young Spaniard

Spanish tennis prospect and World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has proved his worth in the last couple of years by playing an impressive brand of tennis. He was the first one in a long time to dethrone Novak Djokovic of his dominant Grand Slum runs which had people claiming that he would turn out to be the next big thing in tennis.

With Alcaraz’s success, the man behind the Spaniard is none other than his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero. He sat for a recent interview with La Nacion having arrived at Buenos Aires, the same place where he won the title in the year 2010. The former World No. 1 was asked about the differences between the players of his generation and that of the generation of Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Holger Rune.

Ferrero brought up the topic of privacy and that the new world now revolves around social media. He feels that the players might lose their concentration and focus because of these social networks. He said:

Obviously this is the generation of electronics; It already makes them different. The world of social networks, being on the phone all the time is something that can be worrying, because it clouds the reality of things a little. Juan Carlos Ferrero said

He added:

The telephone is something dangerous that must be used in a particular and determined way. In our time it was not so echoed throughout the world, instantly; You put one thing and it's all over the planet. In that aspect we didn't make ourselves known as much, we had a little more privacy. Now, the players are well-known. Juan Carlos Ferrero added

Juan Ferrero talked about his memories of becoming the World No. 1

Juan Ferrero went on to become the World No. 1 in the year 2003 and was one of the most talked about players back in the day. In the interview, he shared how he never went out of line even after reaching the top, and thanked his team and his family for guiding him and keeping him grounded throughout his career.

He said:

I think the team structure I had around me always gave me the opportunity to stay grounded. My parents, my coach, the people who worked with me... We have come from a humble place, a humble academy, that we started from scratch. Juan Carlos Ferrero said

Ferrero also shared the fact that he always tried to stay the same way as he was before turning into a superstar. He feels that a person should not change themselves and their personality should not vary depending upon their economic stability.
