It’s widely known that Jose Mourinho is the front-runner to become Real Madrid’s manager again after over a decade away from the club.

Back in January, Madrid and Xabi Alonso parted ways, with Alvaro Arbeloa taking his place in the role of interim manager.

However, now with the season over, and the presidential elections seeing Florentino Perez still in charge, a new permanent manager is needed.

As such, the Madrid president has been clear throughout his campaign that he believed Jose Mourinho is the man for the job, even using him in promotional campaigns.

Now, Benfica have confirmed that talks are in place for Real Madrid to take The Special One from the Portuguese side.

Taking to X, Benfica’s official account explained that Madrid have formally expressed their intentions to hire Mourinho, offering £13 million (€15 million).

It’s also understood that Jose Mourinho is keen for the move, with The Eagles signing off the post saying “Thank you, Jose Mourniho”, almost feeling like an official farewell.

Mourinho will be tasked with ending Barcelona’s run at the top of the LaLiga having won back-to-back titles under Hansi Flick.

His return to the Bernabeu comes 13 years after his first three-year stint as manager came to an end in 2013.

During his first spell with the Spanish giants, he managed them to 127 wins in 178 games, winning the LaLiga title, as well as two domestic trophies.
