On Sunday evening, Celtic hosted their annual Player of the Year awards for the past season.
It’s safe to say, it was a productive evening for Benjamin Nygren. The Sweden international won a hat-trick of awards; The Men’s Player of the Year, The Players’ Player of the Year, and the top goalscorer award.
Some well deserved recognition with the first two awards, and the objectively impressive fact of him being the team’s top goalscorer from a midfield position. His 15 goals in the Scottish Premiership are five more than any other player on the team. There would be no title race without his numbers, that is for sure.
On top of those 15 goals, he has also provided five assists, and created eight big chances. So it is clear that he is a very rounded player. He will be hoping his fine form will be enough for a place in Sweden’s World Cup squad. He provided assists in both their play off semi final win against Ukraine, and play off final win over Poland, so he has certainly played his part.
Let’s hope for another couple of goals to help the Hoops get over the line and secure a fifth consecutive league title.
