Michael Carrick’s side resume their season today, hosting Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford in the Premier League’s Saturday evening kick-off.

Both sides are coming off the back of nearly three weeks of international fixtures with players from both sides playing for their countries.

That was not the case for Benjamin Sesko, however, who pulled out of the Slovenia squad ahead of the team’s Nations League fixtures to focus on recovering from his injury.

Sesko has been suffering from a shin injury since colliding with the advertisement boards at Old Trafford against Liverpool at the end of last season, with him missing the entirety of pre-season.

Despite that, though, the frontman has featured for United this season, scoring against Sabah and Everton to secure vital points for the Red Devils.

Getting the forward back to playing more frequently is arguably essential, however, if Manchester United are to succeed this season.

New updates, from Manchester Evening News reporter Tyrone Marshall, have now said that the club are not ruling out surgery for the 23-year-old as they consider their options.

Marshall has also said that the club’s medical experts are still deciding what the best course of action would be for dealing with Sesko’s injury.

Whilst Benjamin Sesko recovers from his shin injury, Michael Carrick is forced to consider alternative options.

Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have both worked at the top of the field so far this season in Sesko’s place, but lack the aerial presence that the Slovenian brings to the frame.

It creates a difficult dilemma for Carrick, who must balance the 23-year-old’s recovery with what is best for the side.

Crucial ties against Atletico Madrid next Tuesday and Leeds United next Sunday may put that balance to the test as the manager attempts to deliver success for Manchester United.
