Manchester United supporters are excited about the arrival of Benjamin Sesko, and they are hoping to see him feature soon.
It has been a while since the club had a consistent presence up front. Rasmus Hojlund showed promise, but the club ultimately decided that it was time for a change.
The move follows United’s decision to bring in Sesko from RB Leipzig, agreeing to an initial fee of £66 million for the 22-year-old forward.
He was presented to fans at Old Trafford before the club’s final pre-season match, with United eventually defeating Fiorentina on penalties.
Ruben Amorim has yet to decide whether or not he will hand Sesko his first appearance in Sunday’s Premier League opener against Arsenal. The Slovenian striker missed the entire pre-season schedule with his new team.
Having only just joined training this week, Sesko spoke to the club media for the first time and gave some interesting insights.
Sesko will be hoping to settle in quickly as the club looks to improve on last season’s 15th-place finish.
In his first interview, he spoke about what he brings to the pitch, highlighting the skills that helped him build his reputation in Austria and Germany.
The young striker’s comments will be welcome news to Bryan Mbeumo, who led the Premier League in crosses last season, as the 22-year-old star described his preference for connecting with crosses.
“I’m kind of the guy who is ready to attack, to be in front. If there is a space behind to run in. Of course if there are crosses, it’s always going to be nice, I’m always going to be there and I think that is what is important,” he told MUTV.
Patrick Dorgu could also benefit from Sesko’s aerial ability. The full-back had a strong pre-season and may find more opportunities with a target like Sesko in front of goal.
Sesko scored eight headers during his time at RB Leipzig, suggesting he could add another dimension for United this season.
Hojlund followed up his 16-goal debut season with 10 goals in his second year at United.
Interestingly, none of his 26 goals for United have come from headers.
That might shed some light on what kind of forward Amorim was looking for this summer, as there are still areas of Hojlund’s game that need development if he’s going to be a long-term option up front for United.
The only headed goal in Hojlund’s senior career came during his time at Copenhagen back in the 2021/22 season.
