Joe Cole has been speaking about Chelsea in the buildup to tonight’s game against Ajax, and the midfielder was full of praise for one player in particular.
Like the rest of us, Cole has been so impressed by Moises Caicedo’s steady development since signing two years ago. TNT Pundit Cole rates him as the best in the world between the boxes.
“He’s the best midfielder in the world between the boxes, and he’s improving at both ends of the pitch as well. I think he’s absolutely brilliant,” ex-Chelsea winger Cole said in quotes featured in the Metro.
“In terms of breaking up play, playing it through the lines, being intelligent, driving the team forward, and he’s also adding goals to his game, and he scores great goals.
“I’m struggling to think of somebody I’d want in my midfield better than him at the moment, I really would. And that’s a massive shout. But I wouldn’t swap him for anyone now at Chelsea.”
We’d have to agree. In terms of defensive midfielders, there aren’t many out there better – if any. Just look at the two halves of football played on Saturday – just his presence on the pitch in the second half against Forest took Chelsea up about 4 levels.
It would be great to take on Ajax tonight without him – but we suspect Enzo Maresca won’t take that risk.
Also on the agenda today was Chelsea’s loanees. They’ve got three at Strasbourg, and despite our sister club’s success, they’re not all having the easiest time.
Chelsea have registered an incredible 33 new youth players for their Champions League squad, but we don’t expect any of them to feature tonight. You can read why here.
