Big Ange addresses Son’s contract situation and highlights academy talent Mikey Moore’s rise to the senior squad
Tottenham’s season has been far from what they had envisioned, with the Lilywhites suffering 17 Premier League defeats and currently sitting in 15th place. Heading into the clash against Frankfurt, spirits are low following their recent thrashing.. but the outcome of that match could define their entire campaign. In a recent update relayed by football.london , Ange Postecoglou addressed Son Heung-min’s contract situation and explained the reasons behind Mikey Moore’s lack of game time in recent months.
Even while facing inconsistencies this year, Son Heung-min has still accounted for 23 goals with 43 appearances across all competitions. The Spurs captain, who will turn 33 this summer, will be starting the last year of his contract after Tottenham triggered a 12-month extension to his previous one, which would have expired at the end of this year. Postecoglou was asked about a new contract after his extension for the South Korean and said he didn’t know.

Speaking in a press conference after the game, as reported by football.london, Postecoglou said that they had triggered Son Heung-min’s contract extension but there had been no other developments. The Spurs boss said it wasn’t the right time to focus on issues like this, saying that contract talks and planning around the squad would take place at the end of the season – “if I’m here”, he added, of his own uncertain future. He also made it clear that Son would be a part of the conversation moving forward.
The Australian further explained about Mikey Moore’s lack of playing time
17-year-old Mikey Moore emerged late last season and has continued to make an impact this season. He netted his past goal for the club in the Europa League along with an assist in the same competition, as well as registered his first assist in the Premier League this season too. He was sidelined for two months due to a virus last season, but still managed to have 18 senior appearances for the north London club over the past academic year. But he has not featured since February as he was subbed out at half time in subsequent games (Brentford in the Premier League & Aston Villa in the FA Cup). Ange Postecoglou has since clarified the reasons behind Mikey missing.
“We’ve exposed Mikey a hell of a lot more than I thought we would at the start of the year,” explained Postecoglou. “He only just started playing Under-21 football last year and he had some injuries, didn’t play a lot. It was kind of touch-and-go at the start of the year, do we let him bed in with the 21’s or give him a loan or keep him with us?”
“But my thing was ‘Let him train for a year, train with men, train in the first team environment and see how he adapts. At the end of that he’ll still be 17 or 18 and we can make decisions’, but he’s played a lot more than we thought. But he’s very much a part of our set-up in the first-team and he’s training every day.”
Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou now prepare to face Frankfurt in the decisive second leg.. a match that could not only shape the outcome of their season but also define the club’s immediate future.

Oliver Glasner drops Marc Guehi team news hint for European clash amid Liverpool transfer talks
As Crystal Palace prepare for their Conference League play-off first leg against Fredrikstad on Thursday night, their captain Marc Guehi has been at the epicentre of intense transfer speculation. As per BBC Sport correspondent Sami Mokbel, Liverpool have held talks with the Eagles over a potential £35m swoop for the defender, who’s into the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, and those discussions are set to ‘accelerate in the next few days’. The FA Cup winners are also having to contend with the prospective exit of Eberechi Eze, who’s currently the subject of transfer negotiations between the south London club and Tottenham Hotspur (Sky Sports). Glasner confirms Guehi will start against Fredrikstad Glasner spoke to the media this lunchtime ahead of Palace’s European fixture, and he emphatically addressed the situation regarding the exit-linked duo in relation to their involvement against Fredrikstad. As per The Guardian’s Ed Aarons on X, the Eagles manager said of Guehi and Eze: “Most of you will be surprised that they will start again tomorrow, because of all the rumours, but they are committed here and they will play a crucial part.” Liverpool fans will have a keen eye on Guehi tomorrow night The 25-year-old’s situation with the Eagles – who he captained against Chelsea on Sunday – is markedly different to that of Alexander Isak, who’s been frozen out at Newcastle as he continues to try and force a move to Liverpool. Even if Guehi plays tomorrow night and were to join the Reds in the next two weeks, he wouldn’t be cup-tied for our Champions League games – he’d only be ineligible if (theoretically) he were to sign for another team in this season’s Conference League. That removes one concern that LFC supporters may have had, and it’s to the defender’s credit that he’s continuing to simply get on with his football amid such intense speculation and the opportunity for a potentially life-changing transfer. Both Liverpool and Palace fans will be hoping that the England international doesn’t pick up an injury against Fredrikstad, as that’d end the Merseysiders’ pursuit of him this summer and also deprive Glasner’s side of their captain and leader. There could be plenty of vested interest from Richard Hughes, Arne Slot and Reds fans in the game at Selhurst Park tonight, now that the Eagles manager has confirmed that Guehi will be starting the fixture.
New report sheds light on how Cowboys view Micah Parsons situation
It is no secret that the relationship between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys is not on solid ground, but that does not necessarily mean it is tarnished beyond repair. On the latest episode of his podcast, which was released on Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter predicted that Parsons and the Cowboys are "headed towards divorce." Schefter said the two sides have not spoken since April and that it seems like a matter of when — not if — they part ways. Longtime NFL reporter Josina Anderson was told the situation is not quite that grim, at least from the Cowboys' perspective. Anderson reported on Tuesday evening that the relationship between Parsons and Dallas "has not deteriorated to the point of an imminent divorce." "I did not detect any obvious tones of concern in my sourced conversation when I recently asked about ESPN's Adam Schefter's report stating he sees 'these two sides headed towards a divorce, in time.' ... I just feel Dallas has so much history with protracted (and) sensitive negotiations, thus my current impression is the club remains unrattled, at this time," Anderson wrote in a post on X. Parsons is earning just over $24M in the final year of his rookie contract this season. The 26-year-old had 12 sacks in 13 games last season and has 52.5 sacks in 63 career games. Parsons is arguably the best pass-rusher in the NFL when healthy. Although Parsons has formally requested a trade, the Cowboys maintain that they have no intention of dealing their four-time Pro Bowl defensive end. The only real leverage Parsons has is creating a headache in Dallas. He remains under contract, and the Cowboys also can use the franchise tag on him in each of the next two seasons. If Parsons were to sit out regular-season games, his contract would eventually toll. Even with Jerry Jones publicly taking shots at Parsons, one massive contract offer could change everything.
MLB sends message by suspending Victor Robles for bat-throwing incident
Major League Baseball announced that Mariners outfielder Víctor Robles has received a 10-game suspension and an undisclosed fine from the league. The suspension will begin as soon as Robles is reinstated from the injured list, though Robles has filed an appeal and the suspension is being held in abeyance until the appeals process is complete. Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reported these details prior to the official announcement. Divish notes that the M’s would have to play a man short during the suspension. Robles has been on the injured list for most of the year. Back in early April, he made a sensational catch in San Francisco but crashed into the sideline netting and dislocated his left shoulder, causing a small fracture in the humeral head of said shoulder. A week ago, he was finally able to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma. During that week, he was hit by pitches multiple times, as shown in this video breakdown from Jomboy Media. Although he was hit five times, only three of them were technically counted as hit-by-pitches, with the other two counting as swings. Regardless, the final incident saw Robles hit by Joey Estes of the Las Vegas Aviators. Of the five times Robles was hit, three of them were out of the hand of Estes, though the final two were counted as swinging strikes. Regardless of how it was scored, Robles was clearly upset and threw his bat toward the pitcher’s mound. It doesn’t appear as though it hit Estes or anyone else, but MLB is understandably taking a firm stance against a player using his bat in this dangerous manner and sending Robles a message. President of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto spoke to members of the media, including Adam Jude of the Seattle Times, noting that the club tentatively planned to reinstate Robles from the IL next week but those plans may change with the suspension. Divish suggests that perhaps the best plan is to reinstate Robles on Sept. 1, so that the M’s can at least play with a 27-man roster, though that would push his reinstatement into the middle of September. Reinstating him earlier would mean playing with a 25-man roster for a while, though that would also mean Robles would be able to be reinstated for more games. It’s also unclear how long the appeals process will take. Sometimes, players appealing a suspension will hang in limbo until their team goes to New York, where the MLB head offices are located. The M’s don’t play in New York again this year, so it’s not clear when the appeal would be scheduled for. Robles being in the minors could also complicate factors. The M’s would surely love for the appeal to drag out into the winter and for Robles to serve his suspension next year, since they are currently in a playoff race, though MLB presumably wouldn’t let it play out like that.
Russell Westbrook already made his biggest free-agency mistake
A first-ballot Hall of Famer whenever he decides to hang it up, Russell Westbrook has long been revered as one of the NBA's premier point guards, both with his aggressive play and infectious energy. Despite the former MVP's impressive resume, though, he remains unsigned nearly two months after free agency opened on June 30. It's no secret that Westbrook is no longer an All-Star-caliber player, but it's certainly jarring to see his name alongside the summer's other leftovers. Over the last two seasons, Russ has willingly accepted a bench role and shown his ability to contribute even without being the offense's focal point. He finished top-10 in Sixth Man of the Year voting with both the Los Angeles Clippers in 2023-24 and the Denver Nuggets in 2024-25. The Nuggets may have been Westbrook's most seamless fit since the 36-year-old left the Oklahoma City Thunder, which brings us to the key mistake he made this offseason: He decided to bet on himself when his career was trending south. It's understandable why Westbrook decided to decline his player option with Denver. $3.5 million is pocket change relative to today's NBA salaries, so it's possible the nine-time All-Star expected to land a bigger payday on name brand alone. But that's no longer the case with Westbrook. The Nuggets, like several teams before them, took a chance on Westbrook, whose play has been nothing short of a wild card in recent years. Alongside Nikola Jokic, though, he found success operating off-ball by utilizing his natural explosiveness, a sensible calling card for one of basketball history's most athletic playmakers. It seemed like the perfect spot for Westbrook to finish out his career. Instead, he has continued to seek out a more lucrative deal with a team that is looking to give him more offensive freedom. While the Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks are both reportedly interested in adding his services, neither team can offer both a higher salary and an expanded role. It also seems unlikely that Westbrook will find a more seamless fit for himself than what he had in Denver. Whether it's due to his erratic offensive tendencies or his relentless determination to involve himself in every action, it's easy to see why teams have to talk themselves into Westbrook at this point in his career. It appears that Russ will finally be picked up soon, but the damage has already been done. The two-time scoring champion already gave up his best chance at winning a title once he departed from Denver.
