Following on from Napoli reclaiming the Serie A crown last season, Inter Milan knew that they had to make some changes in the summer to compete – and they did.
While this campaign hasn’t exactly been their finest in recent memory, they still sit on the verge of glory in both the league and the Coppa Italia.
Of course, it’s all about the run-in with just eight games remaining until a champion is crowned, and we are here to take a look at what’s to come.
In the month of April, even without the allure and gravity of a Champions League knockout tie, Inter are going to be tested in a big way.
It all kicks off with a famous old fixture at home to Roma who, as of this writing, are still very much in the mix for a top four spot. Still, if the hosts play to their full potential, they should be picking up all three points.
Up next is the first of two games against the shock of the season – Como. A trip to the lakes will arguably be Inter’s biggest game remaining. That’s because if they can get through it unscathed, it could dash any hope that rivals AC Milan can mount a comeback between now and the end of May.
Inter are currently priced at a resounding 1/10 to win back the championship, and a quick look at the AceOdds bet calculator will tell you how much you could earn from backing that, but complacency has cost this club many times in the past and they won’t want to repeat those mistakes again.
The good news is that a home game against Cagliari will follow this, but the bad news is that the visitors are still not guaranteed of survival – far from it.
In fact. Any club that has faced a relegation-threatened team will know that they will perform every dark art necessary to get something on the board, and with Inter feeling the pressure of trying to lock up the title, this could be a potential banana skin.
Inter’s attention shifts to the cup just a few days later with Como coming to the San Siro, and with the aggregate score being 0-0 from the first leg, this has the makings of a clash that will be decided by the odd goal – and the fans need to try and create the kind of atmosphere that really throws the underdogs off.
Finally, we come to Inter Milan vs Torino to end the month of April and if you are feeling confident, you could say that this could open up the door for Inter to secure the trophy before we even hit the last few weeks.
Torino have failed to impress in more ways than one in Serie A this season and while it isn’t going to be a walk in the park, which is the case for all of these meetings, this Inter team has the kind of grit and determination necessary to live up to the expectations put in front of them and prove why they are still the kings of Italian football.
Ever since their iconic treble triumph in 2010, Inter have only been able to capture two league titles in 2021 and 2024. If they can make it three in the last six years, that would serve as the kind of statement they need not only to their rivals, but to the rest of Europe that they have the quality needed to really kick on and get back to the heights they were once at.
Alas, it’s all about taking things one game at a time.
