AC Milan and Juventus are both interested in signing Mats Hummels in what would be a free transfer, according to a report from Germany.

There is absolutely no doubting that Hummels can still contribute decisively at the highest level as he has been a big part of the Borussia Dortmund side that made it to the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

According to what is being reported by Bild, the 35-year-old’s contract in Dortmund expires on June 30th and everything remains open at the moment, including the idea of leaving the club he has such a strong attachment to.

Before the Champions League final against Real (June 1), three possibilities are on the table: he could retire after that game (given he wasn’t called up for the European Championship), renew with BVB or move to a ‘neighbouring country’.

Milan and Juventus are named in the report as being two sides that have a concrete interest in bringing the veteran central defender over the Alps, but not much more information is given.

It must be remembered that tomorrow night will be Simon Kjaer’s last game for the club given he will leave on a free, so perhaps the management feel there is a leadership void to be filled.
