Tottenham suffer setback in pursuit of highly-rated Premier League forward.

Thomas Frank is no longer the Tottenham Hotspur head coach, and that could have an impact on the club’s transfer strategy in the summer.

The Lilywhites brought in Conor Gallagher and Souza in the January transfer window. Given the current state of the squad, Thomas Frank wanted more signings. He admitted that the club were interested in signing Antoine Semenyo, but the Ghanaian chose to leave Bournemouth for Manchester City.

Creating chances and scoring goals has been one of Tottenham’s biggest problems this season. Above all, injuries prevented them from having any kind of momentum. As far as the strikers are concerned, Dominic Solanke spent large chunks of the first half of the season on the sidelines before only returning to action last month. Richarlison, who was spearheading Spurs’ attack in the absence of Solanke, sustained a hamstring injury in the FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa in January, while Randal Kolo Muani is still searching for his first Premier League goal.

Tottenham target Igor Thiago signs new contract at Brentford

There was a clear sense of urgency within the club to recruit attacking players who could make an immediate difference at N17. The Lilywhites were reportedly interested in signing Brentford marksman Igor Thiago in the past winter transfer window. However, Brentford did not allow him to leave.

Igor Thiago, who joined from Club Brugge in 2024 as a replacement for Ivan Toney, has been in sensational form for Brentford this season. The 24-year-old has emerged as the key marksman for the Bees with 17 league goals, a figure only bettered by Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

Now, Tottenham have suffered a seismic blow to their hopes of landing the Brazilian in the summer following a fresh update on his future. Brentford have confirmed that Thiago has signed a new long-term contract, committing his future at the Gtech Community Stadium until at least the summer of 2031. The deal also includes a one-year extension option for the club.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Thiago has now suffered a setback after he committed his future to Brentford. The Brazilian striker was one of the players the North London club had been evaluating, but they must look elsewhere in the summer to fortify their striker department. Also, until a permanent head coach is appointed, which is likely to happen after the end of the season, any interest in new players would hold little significance.

By the time a permanent successor for Frank is hired, the Lilywhites will hope the pool of quality strikers expands.
