Bonmati Makes History With Third FIFA Best Women’s Player Award

Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati captured the 2025 FIFA Best Women’s Player Award for an incredible third year in a row.

The 27-year-old midfielder is the only player to win the women's award three times. Barcelona teammate Alexia Putellas previously received the award in 2021 and 2022.

Bonmati registered 15 goals across 44 matches in all competitions for Barcelona during the 2024-25 season.

She helped Barcelona to a domestic treble last season but lost out to Arsenal 1-0 in the 2025 UEFA Women's Champions League final.

Barcelona currently sits in first place in the 2025–26 Liga F standings with 39 points gained through 14 matches played.

Bonmati has found the net six times in 15 matches in all competitions this season for Barca Femeni.

Barcelona Have Dominated The FIFA Best Women’s Player Award

With Bonmati and Putellas sweeping the award from 2021 to 2025, Barcelona players have won the FIFA Best Women’s Player Award for five consecutive seasons.

Bonmati was named player of the tournament at Euro 2025. Spain finished as runner-up to England, having lost the final on penalties.

She has scored 31 goals in 83 international appearances for the Spanish women's national team.

Sandy Baltimore (France and Chelsea), Nathalie Bjorn (Sweden and Chelsea), Lucy Bronze (England and Chelsea), Mariona Caldentey (Spain and Arsenal), Temwa Chawinga (Malawi and Kansas City Current), Kadidiatou Diani (France and Lyon), Melchie Dumornay (Haiti and Lyon), Patri Guijarro (Spain and Barcelona), Lindsey Heaps (USA and Lyon), Lauren James (England and Chelsea), Chloe Kelly (England and Manchester City/Arsenal), Ewa Pajor (Poland and Barcelona), Claudia Pina (Spain and Barcelona), Alexia Putellas (Spain and Barcelona), Alessia Russo (England and Arsenal) and Leah Williamson (England and Arsenal) were also nominated for the award.
