Red Bull New York head of sport Julian de Guzman entered the offseason with the task of naming a head coach who could influence the Red Bulls into playing with more attacking flair and greater creativity.

Although there were more experienced coaching candidates, de Guzman was impressed by the work done by former United States men's national team midfielder Michael Bradley, who led Red Bulls II to the 2025 MLS Next Pro title.

On Monday, the Red Bulls appointed Bradley as head coach.

“Michael had an exceptional playing career and has demonstrated a bright future in coaching, especially after leading our Red Bull New York II to the MLS NEXT Pro Cup this past season,” de Guzman said.

"He leads with calm confidence and has a great way of connecting with people. We are excited for Michael to bring his philosophy to our first team and continue to lead our club towards success."

Bradley replaces Sandro Schwarz, whom the organization parted ways with after the club's first playoffless season in 15 years.

He succeeded Ibrahim Sekagya as head coach of Red Bulls II, partially into the 2025 season, after the Ugandan coach was promoted to a full-time first team assistant coaching role.

Bradley Enjoyed Tremendous Success With Red Bulls II; He’s Now Tasked With Igniting Red Bull New York's MLS Charge

Bradley made an immediate impact in his role at Red Bulls II. The reserve team went 11-4-4 under his watch to finish the 2025 MLS Next Pro regular season.

Red Bulls II ended the postseason with a 3-0-1 record and a trophy raising. The Baby Bulls scored an incredible 15 goals in four playoff matches on their way to a championship. It was the most ever by a team in a single MLS NEXT Pro postseason.

Now, Bradley will be asked to improve a Red Bull attack that finished 17th of all MLS clubs with 48 goals scored.

“I am excited for the opportunity to be head coach of the club that I started my professional career with and also in the state that I call home," Bradley said. "I’m looking forward to getting to work alongside everyone here and do my part to help this club achieve the success our fans deserve."

It's been all change for Red Bull New York this offseason, with Schwarz being replaced after he led the club to an appearance in the 2024 MLS Cup final. Longtime Red Bulls starting XI regulars Carlos Coronel, Lewis Morgan, Kyle Duncan and Peter Stroud all have departed the Harrison, New Jersey club.

It's now Bradley's turn to rebuild Red Bull New York around youthful legs and attractive football.
