Manchester United’s recruitment team continues to be linked with several young attacking talents across Europe as clubs begin positioning themselves ahead of what could be another busy summer transfer window.
The Premier League side have monitored a number of emerging forwards, particularly players capable of operating out wide.
One player who has appeared on United’s radar is Said El Mala, but the race for his signature is now becoming increasingly competitive.
According to the Daily Mail, Brentford have now stepped up their pursuit of the 1. FC Koln winger and are preparing to open talks in an attempt to move ahead of rival clubs interested in the youngster.
Brentford are believed to have closely monitored El Mala again during FC Koln’s clash with Bayern Munich on Saturday, where the winger found the back of the net in another impressive display.
The London club reportedly want to move quickly before interest intensifies further, especially with growing expectations that the attacker could soon break into the senior Germany national team setup.
Said El Mala has enjoyed a standout campaign and is now said to be in contention for inclusion in Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad for the upcoming World Cup, with the official announcement expected on Thursday.
Manchester United have also been linked with the winger in recent months as scouts continue tracking highly rated young talents across Europe.
The attacker’s future has become an increasingly discussed topic after comments he made last month regarding uncertainty surrounding his next move.
“I feel at home here, but I can’t predict the future,” he said.
“We’ve had open and honest talks with Thomas Kessler, and we both know there are a few crucial matches left for the club.
“When the time comes, something will be sorted.”
There have also been changes away from the pitch, with El Mala recently parting ways with long-time agent Martin Camona, who was known for having strong Premier League connections.
The winger officially joined 1. FC Koln on July 1, 2024 after completing a transfer from rivals Viktoria Koln.
However, due to a transfer ban involving FC Koln, El Mala spent the 2024/25 season back on loan with Viktoria Koln before completing the permanent transition into FC Koln’s squad for the following campaign.
Now, after a breakout year that has attracted Premier League attention and international recognition, Brentford are attempting to move decisively.
