Manchester United’s first-team preparations continue to dominate the headlines.
Away from Old Trafford, however, there has also been movement involving players connected to members of the current United dressing room.
Supporters are often quick to follow the careers of footballing families, particularly when they share links to the Red Devils.
That trend has continued this week following fresh transfer news from the EFL.
Harry Maguire’s brother, Laurence Maguire, has completed a permanent move to Rochdale after signing a two-year contract with the League Two club following his departure from MK Dons, Rochdale announced on their website.
The defender, who has made more than 80 League Two appearances during his career, becomes Rochdale’s latest addition as they prepare for the new season back in the English Football League.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, Laurence Maguire said, “It’s been going on for quite a few weeks, maybe even months, so I’m delighted to be here.
“I know quite a lot about the Club, and as soon as Ian came in, I knew this was the place I wanted to be.
“The chats have been really good, really positive, and it’s time for me to get down to business.
“There’s a great group of lads here, and the staff have been brilliant.
“It’s a club that’s on the up, and we want to have another good year back in the EFL.
“I’ve been in this league a few years now, and it’s a tough one, but we’ll definitely be ready for it.”
Laurence is one of Harry Maguire’s two footballing brothers, alongside Joe Maguire, who currently plays for Glossop North End.
Meanwhile, Harry remains an important part of Manchester United’s plans after signing a contract extension with the club in April this year.
The new agreement keeps the England international at Old Trafford until June 2027, while also giving United the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.
Although Laurence’s career has taken a different path through the English leagues, he will now be hoping to make his mark at Rochdale as he begins a fresh chapter with the League Two side.
