Bruno Fernandes has enjoyed a stretch of individual recognition over the past year that few Manchester United players have ever matched.

The Portuguese captain closed out the 2025/26 season as the Premier League’s Player of the Season, an award voted on by fans as the competition’s standout player.

He also picked up the Golden Playmaker prize after breaking the division’s single-season assist record, registering 21 to surpass the previous mark of 20 jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

Beyond the Premier League, Bruno Fernandes was named the Football Writers’ Association’s Men’s Footballer of the Year, an honour voted on by more than 900 journalists.

Within Old Trafford itself, he claimed both the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for a record fifth time and the Players’ Player of the Year, as chosen by his own teammates.

Bruno Fernandes edges closer to signing for club

That standing at the club now forms the backdrop to contract discussions between United and their captain, amid a lucrative offer from Turkish side Galatasaray.

The Athletic reports that the club and their captain are in discussions over a new deal with Fernandes wanting to stay.

Galatasaray have proposed a salary of €20million (£17.1m; $23.2m) a year for the 31-year-old, but Fernandes wants to stay at Old Trafford and talks over a new deal are already underway.

His current contract, signed in August 2024, runs until 2027 with the option of a further 12 months.

Fernandes previously carried a €65million release clause available only to foreign clubs, though that window has since closed for the summer.

United are adamant they have no intention of selling their captain now that clause has expired, and insist they have received no contact from other clubs regarding his future.

It’s not the first time Fernandes has attracted serious interest from elsewhere, with Al Hilal, Juventus and AC Milan all previously credited with interest in his services.

Fernandes revealed he turned down a substantial offer from the Saudi club last year, choosing instead to remain in Europe’s top flight.

He did, however, admit that sensing United wouldn’t have minded cashing in on him at the time hurt and left him feeling sad.

Given the season he’s just produced, there will be little appetite at Old Trafford for a repeat of those feelings this time around.
