Bruno Fernandes enters the new season as one of the most important figures in Manchester United’s squad, but uncertainty surrounding his future has once again emerged.

The Portuguese midfielder has been at Old Trafford for more than six years after joining from Sporting CP in January 2020 and has established himself as the club’s captain and creative heartbeat.

His 2025/26 campaign was arguably his best yet, with Bruno Fernandes helping United secure a third-place Premier League finish while collecting a host of individual awards.

He was named Premier League Player of the Season, won the FWA Men’s Footballer of the Year, claimed the Golden Playmaker award after registering a record 21 assists, and was also voted both Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year and Manchester United Players’ Player of the Year for a second consecutive season.

Three clubs eye move for Bruno Fernandes

Despite that outstanding campaign, Juventus, AC Milan and Galatasaray are all understood to be monitoring Fernandes, with a £57million release clause available to clubs outside England, as reported by BBC Sport.

That clause could potentially make the 31-year-old an attractive option for the interested sides, although it remains to be seen whether any of the three clubs will actually make a formal approach.

Fernandes’ contract situation could add another layer to the story.

His current deal has entered its final year, although United have an option to extend it by another season, and there is currently no agreement over a fresh long-term contract.

Galatasaray have already been linked with an attempt to tempt Bruno Fernandes, with reports last month claiming the Turkish giants were prepared to offer him a salary matching what he currently earns at United.

Juventus and AC Milan are now also understood to be interested, meaning United could potentially face competition from three major European clubs if the situation develops.

The possibility of Fernandes leaving would be particularly significant given what happened last season with Al-Hilal.

The Saudi Arabian side made a huge push for the midfielder, preparing a reported £100 million transfer bid while offering wages of around £700,000 per week.

Fernandes ultimately rejected the opportunity to move to Saudi Arabia and remain with United, despite admitting he could have earned substantially more money.

However, he revealed that he was hurt and sad by the feeling that United’s hierarchy were willing to consider selling him, particularly after being told it was ultimately his decision whether to accept Al-Hilal’s offer.

That decision makes the current situation an interesting one for United.

Fernandes has just produced a record-breaking season and remains central to Michael Carrick’s plans, but with his contract situation unresolved and a £57m clause potentially available to overseas clubs, interest from Juventus, Milan and Galatasaray could put the club in a difficult position.
