Italy’s Delegation Chief Gianluigi Buffon says the upcoming World Cup qualifiers are the ‘only thing’ the Azzurri must focus on in the next six months: ‘We want to qualify with no ifs or buts.’

The Azzurri begin their 2026 World Cup qualification journey away at Norway on June 6. Arguably, the most challenging game in Group I, where Erling Haaland’s country has already collected six points in two games.

“There is great anticipation and a bit of curiosity,” Buffon told Sky Sport.

Buffon urges Italy to qualify for 2025 World Cup

“What’s certain is that this is our goal. It’s the only thing to focus on for the next six months because we want to qualify with no ifs or buts.”

Several Inter players will be involved in the Champions League Final on May 31, less than a week before the game in Norway. The same goes for Italy captain and PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

However, Buffon believes that such stars should be able to handle the physical and mental fatigue despite a demanding season.

“Obviously, you leave something behind along the way, emotionally and physically,” said the Azzurri and Juventus legend.

“However, being champions like them also means having the right energy and focus to overcome such adversity.”
