Burnley officially sign former Manchester United striker

Burnley are one of the clubs across England aiming to improve in the final weeks of this summer’s transfer window, which shuts at the beginning of September.

The Clarets, who played Manchester United in the Premier League last season, finished 19th in the league and were subsequently relegated meaning the side will play in the Championship during the upcoming campaign.

Led by Nicky Hayen, as manager, the men’s first team squad has been boosted throughout this summer’s transfer window with Florentino, Lluc Castell, Ugo Raghouber, and Ben Amos all making the move to Burnley.

It is not just the men’s first team that are looking to improve ahead of the 2026/27 season, however, with the club’s women’s side also looking to make their mark.

Now, ahead of their first Women’s Super League 2 match against Watford on Friday 4th September, the side have signed former Manchester United striker Rachel Williams.

Taking to the official Burnley website, the club confirmed that Williams has signed a 12-month contract.

Speaking to the club’s media, the striker said: “It’s exciting to be back up north now with a new challenge.

“Speaking to Jackie (Bachteler – Women’s team manager) I was really impressed with her and the Club’s vision.

“Claudia Mummery-Walker’s a good mate of mine and Women’s football’s a small world, so I know the likes of Charlie Wellings, Christie (Harrison-Murray), Deanna (Cooper) and Kirstie (Levell) too.

“It’s a little bit easier coming to a new club when you know people.”

Williams made 90 appearances for Manchester United Women across a four-year stint at the club, stretching from 2022 to 2026.

She has previously had spells at Tottenham Hotspur Women, Birmingham City Women, and Notts County Women too and was most recently at Leicester City Women.

Rachel Williams will now switch her focus towards the start of the upcoming season with Burnley.
