There is a “calm after the storm” between Inter Milan strikers Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram after a week of tension.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the pair have made peace and repaired their relationship.
Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez made plenty of waves with comments he made last week.
Speaking frankly after Inter’s Club World Cup exit against Fluminense, the Argentine implored “whoever wants to leave, leave.”
This was a thinly-veiled dig at teammate Hakan Calhanoglu.
However, the Turk was not the only player in the Inter squad who took Martinez’s words harshly.
Striker Marcus Thuram also reportedly felt hurt by Martinez’s comments.
Furthermore, the fact that the Frenchman gave a like to an equally harsh response by Calhanoglu on social media further fuelled rumours that there was a rift with Martinez.
However, Inter coach Cristian Chivu had Martinez and Thuram talk out their differences.
The two Nerazzurri strikers spoke over coffee after the final team meeting prior to going on their vacations.
Then, there are reports that Martinez and Thuram have messaged each other to keep in touch whilst on holidays.
The Gazzetta note that Thuram made a comment on one of Martinez’s vacation pictures on social media.
The Argentine posted an image of himself on the Riviera Maya in Mexico. The Frenchman jokingly posted “Watch out, you can’t swim!”
The Gazzetta hint that this gesture shows that the rift between the two strikers has started to really heal.
