Cameron Jerome is the latest name to enter Manchester United’s plans, with the club desperately needing improvements following a disastrous start to the 2026/27 season.

INEOS have faced considerable criticism for failing to adequately strengthen Michael Carrick’s squad during the summer.

Despite spending approximately £170 million, United failed to sign a single defender, leaving a glaring weakness at left-back.

Luke Shaw’s injury problems have forced Carrick to deploy Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui and Ayden Heaven outside their preferred positions.

Tuesday’s extraordinary 3-2 Champions League victory against AS Roma exposed those shortcomings once again.

Kobbie Mainoo surrendered possession before Roma exploited the enormous space behind Dalot, who had advanced into a left-wing position, allowing Matias Soule to open the scoring.

Dalot later confirmed that Carrick had specifically instructed him to push forward, exposing United’s tactical vulnerability.

Although Matheus Cunha scored twice to complete an extraordinary comeback, the victory merely papered over the cracks.

United also lack the consistent individual brilliance that once defined their greatest teams.

From Eric Cantona and Ryan Giggs to Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, United historically possessed players capable of producing magic when everything else failed.

Cunha demonstrated those qualities against Roma, but has struggled to deliver consistently this season.

While Carrick attempts to address the first team’s problems, United have made another appointment behind the scenes.

Cameron Jerome joins Manchester United

According to Training Ground Guru, former Premier League striker Cameron Jerome has joined Manchester United as an Under-21 Individual Development Coach.

The 40-year-old is one of four new coaches appointed across different Academy age groups.

Jerome, who supported United growing up, retired from professional football in 2024 following spells with Birmingham City, Stoke City, Norwich City and Bolton Wanderers.

He helped Birmingham defeat Arsenal in the 2011 League Cup final and scored in Norwich’s 2015 Championship play-off final victory.

Following retirement, Jerome worked as a sports consultant and mentor, specialising in position-specific coaching.

United launched an extensive Academy recruitment drive in July, seeking four Individual Development Coaches to deliver personalised training programmes.

Jerome will now help develop United’s emerging talents, with particular emphasis on improving individual performance and positional understanding.

His appointment represents another step towards strengthening the club’s long-term development structure.
