Fabio Capello believes that Inter Milan are “superior” to Champions League opponents Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, and Atletico Madrid.
The former AC Milan and England coach gave his thoughts on Inter’s draw in the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. He also argued that hosting Liverpool and Arsenal at the San Siro can be an advantage for the Nerazzurri.
Yesterday, Inter learned their opponents for the Champions League league phase.
There were a few names that stood out among the eight teams that Inter will be facing.
The Nerazzurri will take on Premier League giants Liverpool and Arsenal. Then, they will take on the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, and Atletico Madrid.
Inter will hardly be underestimating teams like Slavia Prague, Union Saint-Gilloise, or Kairat Almaty. But it is the European heavy-hitters who they’ll see as the tougher matches.
Former Milan coach Fabio Capello writes that “Inter have drawn two formidable English teams, Salah’s Liverpool and Gyokeres’s Arsenal.”
“But they have a significant advantage,” he continues. “They’ll be facing both at the San Siro.”
“And watch out, as Premier League clubs can be less effective psychologically when they’re not playing at their own stadiums.”
“Inter know this well,” Capello writes. “Having beaten Arsenal in Milan last season during the league phase.”
“Then at home, Chivu will have two ‘easy’ matches against Slavia Prague and Kairat Almaty,” the former coach notes.
“The San Siro provided a significant boost to Inter last season in the Champions League (Inter won all the matches they played in front of their fans), and will do so again this time around.”
“Of course,” Capello continues, meanwhile, “three of their four away matches won’t be easy.”
“Because the Nerazzurri have to play in Dortmund, Amsterdam, and Madrid.”
“But Inter right now have every right to feel that they’re superior to Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, and Atletico Madrid,” Capello contends.
