It was an emotional day at Old Trafford on Sunday, as Casemiro waved goodbye to Manchester United ahead of his exit as he approaches the end of his Red Devils contract.
The Brazilian appeared emotional both before and after the game against Nottingham Forest, as a large surfer banner paying tribute to his services for the club was unveiled, and he had a moment with the United fans at full-time, who serenaded him with chants of his name.
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick told the BBC post-match, “Casemiro has been a very good player for a long time. We appreciate everything he has done and especially since I have been here he’s been excellent.
“Part of football is that things come to an end and you have to evolve and adapt. There’s been big players over the time I’ve been here that have left the club. It’s a challenge but we thank him for everything he’s done.”
But Casemiro was too emotional to speak in a post-match press conference, according to Samuel Luckhurst on X, despite being due to attend.
The outgoing Brazilian was able to directly address the fans over a microphone in front of a packed-out Old Trafford at full-time, saying, “the best thing in this club is you [Manchester United fans].”
On the final game of the season, Casemiro will put on a Manchester United shirt for one last time. It’s set to be his 161st and last appearance over a four-year stint at the club, and what a time it has been.
The 34-year-old will leave with the best wishes of every fan at the club, and the toughest job United have this upcoming transfer window is replacing his services in the heart of midfield.
Casemiro was due to attend a post-match press conference but was ‘too emotional’ to conduct one in the end. Was paid handsomely but clearly committed throughout his time at #mufc and that forged a genuine connection with matchgoers.
