Manchester United picked up another hard fought victory over the weekend in the Premier League, defeating Fulham 3-2 to now make it three straight quality wins on the trot under new manager Michael Carrick.

At the heart of the performance was defensive midfielder Casemiro, who continues to turn back the clock in the 2025/26 Premier League season. The Brazilian midfielder was once written off as a finished player, with Jamie Carragher famously saying,  “Leave the football before the football leaves you.”

Well, as a matter of fact, the football has not left the former serial Champions League winner at Real Madrid. In fact, Casemiro has shown flashes of the Champions League maestro of old in recent weeks.

He was brilliant against Declan Rice and Arsenal, and he was brilliant again this Sunday vs. Fulham. Casemiro ran the show defensively with three tackles and an interception for the Manchester United good while adding an assist in an all around excellent performance.

Those who wrote off Casemiro as finished now look quite foolish, because he is back to being one of the most important players on Manchester United and one of the best No. 6’s in the Premier League.

The narrative about Casemiro being washed and someone Man United should move on from has proven to be far from the truth. At 33, the veteran leader is still a vital asset to the Red Devils.
