Manchester United have already started reshaping their midfield ahead of the new campaign, with Michael Carrick overseeing significant changes following the departure of experienced figures from the squad.
The club have prioritised reinforcing the centre of the pitch during the summer transfer window, while several new targets continue to be linked with moves to Old Trafford.
With one era coming to an end, attention has also turned towards the futures of players who played major roles during United’s recent history.
One of those stars now appears set for an entirely new chapter away from European football.
Former Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is reportedly closing in on a move to MLS side Inter Miami after leaving Old Trafford.
According to AS, an agreement between the Brazilian and the Florida-based club has already been completed, with only the final paperwork remaining before the transfer is officially confirmed.
The expectation is that the deal will be signed over the coming days, although Casemiro is currently fully focused on Brazil’s FIFA World Cup campaign before turning his attention to club matters.
Brazil are preparing for their knockout clash against Norway, and the experienced midfielder is said to want his full concentration on the national team before completing the move.
Should Brazil progress, the timing could work perfectly as the national team are expected to travel to Miami, where the agreement could then be finalised.
The move would see Casemiro fulfil what has reportedly been a long-standing ambition.
Despite attracting stronger financial offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia as well as interest elsewhere in Europe, the Brazilian’s priority has always been Inter Miami.
Reports claim the opportunity to play alongside Lionel Messi, combined with family considerations, made the MLS club his preferred destination.
Casemiro officially became a free agent after his Manchester United contract expired on 30 June, allowing negotiations over his next move to accelerate.
It was previously reported that LA Galaxy currently own Casemiro’s MLS discovery rights, meaning Inter Miami must first reach an agreement with their league rivals before the transfer can be formally completed under Major League Soccer regulations, but that looks to have been completed.
