Celta Vigo reach agreement to sign Manchester United goalkeeper

With Senne Lammens confirmed to be Manchester United’s number one choice goalkeeper for the upcoming season, much attention has been focused on the rest of the club’s goalkeepers.

Following Tom Heaton’s contract extension alongside Radek Vitek returning from his loan spell at Bristol City, where he won Player of the Year, the club are faced with a difficult situation.

Vitek has already attracted interested from Coventry City, Ipswich Town, and Hull City who were all recently promoted from the Championship to the Premier League.

Heaton, on the other hand, may take up a coaching role as the season begins to take shape instead of playing.

For Altay Bayindir, though, the future has appeared uncertain over the last few weeks. After a short stint as Manchester United’s starting goalkeeper, he was swiftly replaced by Lammens and has not had a sight since.

Now, according to journalist Alberto Bravo, LaLiga side Celta Vigo have reached an agreement to sign Bayindir on a loan basis.

Bayindir’s contract with Manchester United expires next summer, creating the possibility of a permanent deal following this loan spell, although United do have the power to extend the contract by a further year.

Vigo, who finished sixth last season in the Spanish top flight, currently have Ivan Villar and Ionut Radut as their goalkeeping options.

Radu made 38 league appearances for Celta last season, keeping ten clean sheets, whilst Villar made just five appearances across all competitions.

Altay Bayindir is not the first Manchester United goalkeeper to go out on loan this summer after Andre Onana re-joined Trabzonspor for the 2026/27 campaign.

With news of an agreement reached between Manchester United and Celta Vigo, focus will now switch towards further developments and confirmation that the deal has been completed for the goalkeeper.
