After concluding their 2024/25 campaign, Aberdeen have released a summer squad update featuring contract details about an imminent Celtic signing…
The Scottish Premiership club, fresh off their historic Scottish Cup victory over Celtic at Hampden last weekend, announced a list of players leaving the team as their contracts come to an end.
Included in the list were Jack MacKenzie, Jamie McGrath, Tom Richie, and goalkeeper Ross Doohan, who is reported to have reached an agreement for a summer return to Celtic following the exit of Scott Bain.
Paying tribute to the goalkeeper, who moved from Celtic to Tranmere Rovers in 2022, the 2025 Scottish Cup winners released a statement on their website: “Ross Doohan joined the club in the summer of 2023, initially as an understudy to Kelle Roos, then latterly Dimitar Mitov.
“The former Celtic, Ayr United and Tranmere Rovers stopper was used sparingly in his first season, turning out against Bonnyrigg Rose in the Scottish Cup before an appearance against Livingston in the season finale at Pittodrie last May.”
“However, he would play a much more active role in year two, admirably covering for the injured Mitov, featuring in 18 of the Dons’ 50 matches, and never letting anyone down.”
As reported on The Celtic Star, Doohan is expected to take over from Bain as Celtic’s third goalkeeper for the 2025/26 campaign, after Bain’s exit following a seven-year stint at the club.
After initially arriving on loan from Dundee in 2018, Bain went on to feature in 78 matches across all competitions for Celtic.
He completed a permanent transfer that summer and subsequently secured 14 trophies at the Hoops comprising of seven Scottish Premierships, four League Cups, and three Scottish Cups.
Speaking of Bain’s departure, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers said: “Scott has given everything to Celtic and I would like to thank him sincerely for his time at the club. He has been a valued member of the squad and a great team-mate, really liked and respected by us all. Everyone at the club wishes Scott and his family all the very best for the future.”
