I fully understand the furrowed-brows on the faces of the Celtic support as we enter our last-chance saloon in search for a European hero before the ‘big one’…
There’s not a lot of time left to be fair, three days in fact, and if Stevie Wonder poked his head above his ebony and ivories, even he could see where we are lacking. A couple of top-class wingers to supplement a top-class striker would be nice for starters. Midfield?
Brendan has surmised that he is under-appreciated by some, and not all outside the camp by my reckoning. Fans can be fickle; either his record speaks for itself, or he’s a dud with boring team tactics. I support the former.
Rodgers has won six points out of six (with Pittodrie being a potential banana skin) whilst our only truly meaningful rival with their have mustered merely two.
And, since they have recruited Superman’s nemesis, General Zod to lead their management team, and get them off to a flyer…I’ll take that. With Ibrox on the horizon, we could feasibly romp to seven, providing their ‘chosen one’ is not handed the whistle in a Bellshill pub.
After all, if ‘cheatin’ Beaton’ could not spot a superb basketball intercept from point-blank range at Pittodrie, what chance an ‘El Buffalo’ style kick in the crown jewels, or a vicious stamp on the back? ( See Broonie and The Brickie for clarification).
Europe is a horse of a different colour, and we may need John Wayne to bring the Cavalry in order to do well.
Celtic are trotting along quite nicely at present, but the fans are still bewildered at times. For example, we have bought some decent looking players who shone pre-season. However, whilst many have been called, few have been chosen. Nygren looks the part, and I suspect we could have a gem in the making. His all-round play to match his cool finish was class.
Similarly, Shin; a dangerous looking fella, although he didn’t have a lot of time to do the damage when he replaced Adam Idah. Poor old Adam. He can’t catch a break these days. Lots of movement, but little service to bring the big Irishman out of the doldrums. Time will tell there…
No Inamura? He looked hot in the friendlies, but not even on the bench. That’s a strange one. Reo’s strike was supreme and merits a mention!
Despite his sickness/injuries, Tierney is back where he belongs. Kieran is a banging player, and, if he contributes to a victory at Ibrox to drive Celtic to yet another Title, they may have to make room for another statue on the Celtic Way!
Now, everybody calm down! There’s no way the board will fail to supplement Brendan’s squad for the European tilt. They wouldn’t dare, as they know that a search for a new manager would be both costly, and extremely damaging to their relationship with the fans…yes, I was being sarcastic!
Down Under, as we celebrated a grand victory over Aberdeen, the Brisbane Celtic Supporters club welcomed another legendary Brendan, Argyll and Bute M.P. Brendan O’Hara.
The Celtic-daft practicing pollie has been a family friend of ours since childhood, and it was tremendous to see himself and his family support our club by purchasing the obligatory ‘merch’ before the game. He’s a good mhan!
Crisis? What crisis? Four points clear before the first month of the season, and with a chance to sit at the top table in Europe on the horizon?
If you’re looking for a crisis, tune in to Krys Boyd’s reactionary comments as big Sutty smirks him into a black hole, or, theRangers News meltdown as General Zod parts his locks in the midst of apathy on the green, green grass of Ibrox.
Zod may need divine intervention, and Moses to wield his staff to close that gap! Enjoy the season. It’s looking good.
Hail Hail
Eddie Murray
