With it looking ever likely that Greg Taylor is leaving Celtic, we are in need of a left back, but is that solution already there, right under our noses?
It’s looking ever likely that Greg Taylor will be ending his six year stay at the club with no indication of a new deal and recent reports of a lucrative bid from Greek side PAOK on the table making it imperative we sign a replacement to fill that void.
Kieran Tierney of course is returning to Glasgow and it’s no secret he will be the main man in the left back role, but with his injury history and a demanding season ahead it’s vital we look to acquire a competent back up to further strengthen that area.
A few names have been mentioned from various clubs and countries throughout the continent, but could the solution to that issue be staring us right in the face?
Young left back Matthew Anderson who has spent a couple of seasons on loan at Austrian side Admira Wacker has by all accounts impressed at the club whom Celtic have a formed a budding partnership.
Matthew was part of the Celtic first team squad that toured the US last summer and gained some vital experience playing against the likes of Man City and Chelsea and didn’t looked fazed as he put in composed performances. He was then sent out for another spell at Admira Wacker and impressed in the Austrian second tier yet again.
Matthew is now expected to return to the club and with his contract expiring this month it could be a wise move to extend his stay and involve him more in the first team.
