Tottenham-linked teen leading New England's youth revolution

Over the past couple of seasons, Tottenham Hotspur has scoured the globe for the best young talent available. Last summer, the North London club signed just one player over 19, and it has now turned its attention to New England Revolution wunderkind Peyton Miller.

According to a report from Fox Sports' Doug McIntyre, the 17-year-old has garnered the attention of several Premier League clubs, although Tottenham is pushing hardest to take him across the pond.

It’s a move that would come quickly for Miller. A natural left-back, he has also played as a left wing-back and a left midfielder under Caleb Porter this season. For those who are looking for comparisons, he’s a lot like Fulham’s Antonee Robinson.

Miller broke into the first team last season but has only recently established himself as a consistent starter for the Revolution, making 11 MLS appearances this season. He scored his first goal in a 3-0 win over Montreal on May 31.

Miller had a hand in two of the three goals in that match, assisting fellow whizkid Ilay Feingold for his second. Those two goal contributions have already equalled his tally for the entirety of last season, and he has since earned himself a place in the USA U-20s national team, an opportunity to impress ahead of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile this fall.

Porter’s preferred 3-4-1-2 demands a lot from Miller. Marauding up and down the left side of the field, he has an impressive set of lungs on him. Not only did he score and assist against Montreal, but he also made five recoveries, two interceptions and one clearance.

Defensively, Miller is wise beyond his years, hugging the byline and forcing opponents to cut inside before the back-three suffocates them and wins back possession. Miller's 61.1 percent tackle success rate could be better, but that’s something that will improve in time as confidence grows.

In possession, he’s tricky. His close control is impressive, and he has a knack for popping up in positions many defenders would find hard to read. With 31 touches in the opposition box so far, he adds an extra dynamic to New England’s attack.

That willingness to do the dirty work is exactly the type of thing Premier League sides want. It’s a league obsessed with transitions; if the ball is lost at any moment, the counter-press is initiated instantly.

Tottenham has arguably one of the best in his position in the league with Destiny Udogie, who is also of a similar profile to Miller. If he were to join Spurs, it would take some time to break into the first team, but considering the sheer number of games, Miller would get chances.

Now that Ange Postecoglou has been sacked following Tottenham's worst domestic season in recent memory, it remains to be seen what kind of system Miller could potentially play in. Regardless, the raw talent is there.

Miller won't be able to officially join any of the Premier League clubs until he turns 18 on Nov. 8. Between now and then, he has time to develop at a club that encourages its youngsters. Don’t be surprised to see him in Europe by January 2026.
