It has been revealed that Cesc Fabregas would be open to considering the prospect of becoming Manchester United’s latest managerial appointment.
Speaking to Hajper, via ESPN, former Italy defender Marco Materazzi stated “If Manchester United asked Cesc Fabregas he would think about it. Chelsea too,”
Commenting further, he highlighted the potential problem of Fabregas’ current job at Como, adding that “Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are all very big teams in the Premier League, but Como is a club with a lot of money and I don’t know if Fabregas wants to try and stay one more year to take Como to the Champions League and show what he can do.
“Maybe he can surprise everyone and win the league too with Como?”
Since retiring at Como in 2023, the 38-year-old has been only based at the Italian club with him closing in on three years with the outfit.
In his spell managing Como, Cesc Fabregas has won 36 games whilst also drawing 21 times and losing 22 times.
He has also guided Como to a tenth place finish in Serie A last season and has subsequently gone onto to guide his side to a fourth place position currently, a position that would see the club qualify for next season’s Champions League.
In comparison to Ruben Amorim, Fabregas has won eleven more games than he did in his reign at Manchester United. The two do have similar losing numbers with Amorim having 23 wins whilst Cesc Fabregas has had 22 losses at Como.
Michael Carrick has guided the club towards the brink of next season’s Champions League with Manchester United third with just seven games of the Premier League season to go.
Matches against sides such as Liverpool and Chelsea are still to come in his seven game run, although it appears that the club could possibly be playing in UEFA’s top club competition next season.
It has been previously reported that Michael Carrick would be handed the permanent job should the club secure Champions League qualification and the former midfielder has also received the backing of David Beckham alongside others.
Even with continuing support for Carrick’s permanent appointment emerging, names continue to be linked to the role.
Roberto de Zerbi had previously been linked with the job, and had enquired about the role directly with Manchester United, although has gone onto join Tottenham Hotspur in his first permanent role since leaving Marseille earlier this year.
Oliver Glasner’s departure from Crystal Palace also sparked rumours around his future but alternative options currently appear more likely to be appointed.
Manchester United will have to come to a decision in the coming months before the club’s pre-season schedule gets underway later this summer.
Cesc Fabregas is the latest name to be linked to the permanent role but ultimately it will be Manchester United who have the final say.
