Jesse Derry has been stretchered off after a sickening clash of heads with Nottingham Forest defender Zach Abbot.

Sometimes you get the feeling nothing can get worse at Chelsea, then it does.

2-0 down at home to Nottingham Forest, things were bleak for the Blues. Then came a hopeful moment – a penalty won before half time.

But the cost of the spot kick was incredible dear. Young Jesse Derry, making his senior debut for the Blues, had been really bright in the first half – pretty much the only player to have any credit for his team – suffered a sickening clash of heads, and was stricken on the ground for ten minutes when he was carefully treated and put on a stretcher.

Of course, you know what comes next. When things can get worse for this Chelsea team, they do. Cole Palmer stepped up and saw his penalty saved by Mats Selz. The wait for a Premier League penalty goes on.

Malo Gusto’s mistake handed Forest their second goal – some of the most brainless defending we’ve seen in weeks at Chelsea.

The first goal was just as stupid. Chelsea left huge gaps in their defence meaning that Dilane Bakwa could pick out a cross and Taiwo Awoniyi could head home after just a few minutes.
