These are the Chelsea Player ratings for their Premier League clash with Manchester City on April 12. The Blues saw out the first half with a scoreless half where they largely contained the threat of their opposition while looking scattered and incapable on the counter. The match took on a new weight when Bournemouth defeated Arsenal to blow the title race wide open in favour of the Cityzens.

The second half proved a step too much for Liam Rosenior against the machine that is run-in Pep. They let in three goals and failed in their bid to continue containing the attackers. They ultimately proved to be mentally fragile and defensively weak as they were overrun by the talented unit of City.

Chelsea Starters

Robert Sanchez – 3: Distribution was poor all game long, punting to the opposition when under pressure and rolling a pass to Caicedo who was swarmed for the third.

Malo Gusto (off for Acheampong at 87) – 4: did what was asked and played as an energetic right-back, joined the attack but was ultimately unable to cause many issues and had midfielders covering him int he back line.

Wesley Fofana – 5: Not good but did look solid covering in the first 45 as he and Hato kept the opposition at bay, wasn’t at fault for the goals

Jorrel Hato – 6: Some smart play kept his side clear of danger for the majority of the match, made some good line-breaking passes in the first half, and can hold his head high.

Marc Cucurella – 5: One of the more dangerous players on the day from the marauding left role and scored a disallowed goal but was offside once too often

Moises Caicedo (off for Essugo at 80) – 5: As has been the case a mostly fine performance for the midfielder but he lost the ball on the deflating third goal and was ineffective in the opposing half.

Andrey Santos (Withdrawn for Lavia) – 6: Had a difficult job shielding the back line and covering for Gusto when he was unable to track back, brought down by being bested by his man for one of the goals.

Pedro Neto – 3: Had plenty of counter-attacking chances in the first-half but made nothing of them, was on dead ball situations in the absence of Enzo Fernandez and didn’t have many strong deliveries.

Estevao (withdrawn for Garnacho) – 3: Bullied all match long and looked out of his depth, offside when on the break and didn’t offer enough tracking back, rightfully hooked.

Cole Palmer – 5: Got into good positions consisntently but just did nothing with them, game would have bene the same with or wirhout him despite all the touches he was getting.

Joao Pedro (off for Delap after 80) – 6: Had a very difficult role. Being asked to drop deep when in possession and press when off of it. Did the most with what was given and set up the would-be Cucurella goal with a great run and pass.
