German outlet Bild reports that Chelsea are competing with Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan for Upamecano. Bayern Munich are said to be in a “poker game” over the defender’s future, having yet to meet his wage demands for a new contract.
The club reportedly fears that the French center-back could follow in the footsteps of David Alaba, who left for Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.
Chelsea view Upamecano as a key option to strengthen their defense. In addition to the clubs named by Bild, Barcelona have also reportedly shown interest in the 26-year-old. Despite the growing interest, Upamecano prefers to extend his contract with Bayern.
The Frenchman’s deal runs through June 2026, and he’s requesting a renewal fee of around €20 million. As a result, Cadena SER reports that Real Madrid could turn that into a signing bonus, allowing the French defender to don the white shirt and form a formidable trio alongside Eder Militao and Dean Huijsen.
Recently, Sport Bild’s Christian Falk reported that PSG are monitoring the situation of Upamecano. The Bayern Munich standout is seen as an option for the club, who could pursue a deal if the player were to be a free agent next summer.
