Chelsea are showing interest in a summer move for Como star Nico Paz

Chelsea are prepared to make a significant move in the summer transfer window as they aim to secure the signing of Nico Paz, the former Real Madrid midfielder currently plying his trade at Como in Serie A. The London club are ready to table an offer worth €30 million to bring the talented 20-year-old Argentine to Stamford Bridge, according to a report from Fichajes.

Paz’s career trajectory has been intriguing. The midfielder came through the Real Madrid academy, making a strong impression at youth level and even earning a handful of senior appearances. Despite his undeniable potential, he found himself on the periphery of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans, with the Madrid manager preferring more established attacking options in his crowded squad. This prompted Paz to seek more regular playing time, leading to his move to Como last summer in search of first-team football.

Since his arrival in Italy, Paz has been nothing short of exceptional. He has become a vital part of Como’s attacking structure, featuring in 32 matches and directly contributing to 13 goals. Although he is primarily a playmaker operating as a No. 10, he has also showcased his versatility by playing in deeper roles, on the right flank, and even as a false nine. This positional adaptability has not gone unnoticed by Chelsea, who see Paz as a potential creator-in-chief under Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea believe that Paz has the technical ability and tactical intelligence to make an immediate impact in their squad. The club’s hierarchy is particularly keen on his playmaking abilities, which they believe could complement the likes of Enzo Fernández and Cole Palmer while adding much-needed creativity to a team that has often looked one-dimensional in attack. Chelsea’s confidence is further buoyed by their financial strength, which they believe gives them the edge over other interested parties.

Chelsea Could Face Competition for Paz

Despite Chelsea’s aggressive approach, the pursuit of Nico Paz is far from straightforward. Tottenham Hotspur are also in the running for the Argentine. Spurs view Paz as a player who could compete with James Maddison for a place in the starting XI. With Maddison already playing a crucial role in Ange Postecoglou’s setup, Tottenham see Paz as a natural fit in the attacking midfield role, providing them with a creative spark and depth in advanced areas.

However, Tottenham may struggle to match Chelsea’s financial power. The Blues are ready to double down with a lucrative offer and a promise of a key role in Maresca’s project, a proposition that could prove decisive in convincing Paz to choose West London over North London.

Real Madrid also remain a potential obstacle in this deal. Los Blancos still retain a buy-back clause for Paz, allowing them to reacquire the midfielder for a relatively modest fee. While there is no indication that Madrid are actively pursuing a return for Paz, they could still consider activating the clause to either reintegrate him into their squad or sell him for a higher fee.

Nico Paz represents exactly the type of player Chelsea should be targeting: young, technically gifted, and with room to develop into a long-term asset. In a squad lacking creative options, Paz’s vision and playmaking ability could add much-needed dynamism and unpredictability. However, the €30 million price tag is significant for a player still making his way in Serie A.

The move could go either way. On one hand, Paz could emerge as a breakout star, much like Martin Ødegaard did after leaving Real Madrid. On the other, he could struggle to adapt to the Premier League’s physicality and pace, especially given his limited top-flight experience.

If Chelsea are serious about Paz, they should look to close the deal quickly before Tottenham and Real Madrid complicate negotiations. The Blues have the financial muscle to outbid most suitors, but they must also provide a clear developmental path to ensure Paz becomes more than just another promising talent lost in the shuffle at Stamford Bridge.

Jerry Jones says Cowboys have made one trade, possibly more to come

Per Jon Machota of The Athletic, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on SiriusXM that they have made a trade. Jones also said they could make a couple more moves before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline. He said the player will be on the field immediately and implied it could be on the defensive side. “Immediately it will have him on the field and it will address some of the things that have been our shortcomings,” Jones said. Jones, 83, bought the team from Bum Bright back in 1989 for $140M and has raised the value to $10B. Since purchasing the team, Jones has operated as owner, team president, and general manager. He replaced HC Tom Landry with Jimmy Johnson, and shortly after, the team won three Super Bowls in 1992, 1993, and 1995, respectively. In 2014, Jones was named the league’s Executive of the Year, and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017.

The Dallas Cowboys offense has been one of the most explosive units in the NFL this season, but they struggled in their 44-24 loss to the Denver Broncos in 8. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw for just 188 yards – his fewest since Week 1 against Philadelphia – finishing without a touchdown and two interceptions just one week after dicing up the Washington Commanders. The good news for the inconsistent Cowboys is that they’re 2-0-1 following a loss this season and their Week 9 opponent is the 2-5 Arizona Cardinals on "Monday Night Football." They’ll also be tasked with stopping Jacoby Brissett rather than Kyler Murray, who is recovering from a foot sprain and won’t start for Arizona but could get some action according to head coach Jonathan Gannon. Which brings us to today’s quiz. Prescott has been mostly brilliant for the Cowboys this season, throwing 16 touchdowns to five interceptions and 258.8 yards per game. He’s also one of 37 NFL players to average at least 230 passing yards per game through their career. With that being said, how many of those players can you name in five minutes? Good luck! 3 Depressing Realizations From Green Bay Packers Crushing Loss Against Carolina

The Green Bay Packers continue to frustrate fans by failing to play up to their lofty standards. For a team that has impressed during most of this 2025 season, what was supposed to be an exciting return home to Lambeau Field against the Carolina Panthers quickly soured into a very gloomy afternoon. Here are three key takeaways from the Packers’ first home loss of the year. #1: Dismal Red Zone Play Dooms Green Bay Packers Offense Entering Sunday, Green Bay had a 70% TD rate when entering the red zone, one of the highest marks in the league. Quarterback Jordan Love was in the upper tier of passers in red zone completion percentage. However, against Carolina, the team went just 1 for 5. In the first half, a Savion Williams red zone fumble started the day off on the wrong foot. Later, Jordan Love threw multiple incompletions and Matt LaFleur chose to kick a field goal on 4th 6 at the Carolina 8 yard line. The 8 yard line was a site of issues for the Packers in the 4th quarter as well. On 3rd 3, Emanuel Wilson got the ball and ran for -5 yards on what was a massive play in the game. Down 13-6, the Packers then turned it over on downs on the ensuing 4th 8. While part of the issues were obviously execution-related, the play-calling can also be questioned. As much as LaFleur has the reputation of an elite play-designer, his situational play-calling and play-call sequencing continues to feel like it needs improvement. 10 points on 5 red zone trips is absolutely abysmal. This kind of outing is what makes one of the more talented squads in the NFL a beatable team. #2: Defensive Line Takes a Step Back Although they only gave up 16 points, the defense did not have a good day. QB Bryce Young barely passed for 100 yards, but the Panthers averaged 5 yards per carry on their way to 163 rushing yards. Lead back Rico Dowdle specifically averaged 5.2 yards a carry on 25 totes, scoring both Panthers touchdowns. Carolina is one of the better running teams in the NFL, but the Packers still routinely failed to get the stops they needed in critical running situations. The Packers gave up 11 rushing first downs and were consistently getting pushed back at the line of scrimmage. While the overall unit played below par, it was Micah Parsons who had a truly poor day. While also being culpable in an underwhelming day against the run, Parsons failed to impact the game as a pass rusher and was locked down by Panthers tackle Icky Ekwonu. #0 failed to record a single pressure in the game, something he has never done before. The team once again had 0 sack yards, as the lone QB takedown by Xavier McKinney netted 0 yards. The issues in the secondary are well documented, the defensive line not carrying their weight is even more concerning. #3: Tucker Kraft-Sized Hole Means It’s Now or Never For Young Skill Position Players Arguably more depressing than the loss itself was the fact that star TE Tucker Kraft when down with a serious knee injury that, the following day, was declared to be an ACL tear. Kraft was on his way to an All-Pro season and now is going to be missing the rest of the season. With 489 yards and 6 receiving touchdowns on the year, Kraft led the team in both categories. At the tight end spot, Luke Musgrave is obviously going to have to step up in a major way. He has shown the ability to be a weapon, particularly in 2023 during his rookie season, but now he is going to have to level up his game even more. More realistically, it will be the young wide receivers who are going to need to pick up the slack for Kraft. Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, both of whom had forgettable afternoons on Sunday, are going to have to grow up fast if the Packers are going to continue being a Super Bowl threat. With Golden in particular, much of his hype so far this season has been about how he has been a good separator, or near-miss highlights of what could have been. It’s now time for him to actually produce like a first-round receiver. Golden’s fellow first-rounders Tetairoa McMillan and Emeka Egbuka have had no issues producing as primary options on their respective teams. While it wasn’t fair to compare Golden’s situation to theirs, Green Bay is now in a situation where they need a player of Golden’s caliber to rise to the occasion and help Christian Watson be a focal point of the passing attack.

Kyle Lowry checked in for the end of the Philadelphia 76ers 129-105 victory over the Brooklyn Nets and he joined an elite group once he stepped on the hardwood. The Villanova product and former 24th-overall pick in the 2006 NBA draft became the 12th player in NBA history to play in 20 NBA seasons. It was Lowry’s first game action of the season for the 5-1 Sixers, and the Philadelphia-native made his lone field goal attempt in garbage time. “Who would have thought it for Kyle Lowry 20 years ago, right?” said head coach Nick Nurse after the win. While Lowry doesn’t have much of a role on the floor for Philadelphia at this stage of his career, Nurse said he’s still a valuable asset to the team. “He’s done a great job being part of our leadership group,” Nurse said of Lowry. “When the players are pulling for him out there, you can tell he’s well-liked and well-respected.” Which brings us to today’s quiz. How many of the 12 NBA players to play in at least 20 seasons can you name in five minutes? Good luck! Did you like this quiz? Are there any quizzes you’d like to see us make in the future?
