Cole Palmer is not for sale, according to Chelsea. But would the Blues start to consider it at the right price if he continues to struggle?

Cole Palmer’s future was being discussed earlier this season because it was becoming clear that this Chelsea team were regressing.

Their star man was simply too good for them, and could be tempted if the likes of Manchester United came calling. Since then, the dynamic has shifted a little. Palmer’s poor form now stretches back more than a year, and he looks physically and mentally a long way off his best.

Kieran Gill’s piece for the Daily Mail today claims that Chelsea sources “insist” that the club “intend on strengthening their squad” this summer rather than weakening it. They also claim there’s no financial need to sell either.

Power dynamic shifts in Chelsea – Palmer story

The question now, however is not if Chelsea need to sell, but if they’d actually be quite tempted to if a huge offer came in.

Are they ready to cash in? The fan backlash they’d receive decreases with every tepid performance from the attacker.

Jesse Derry had a promising debut for the Blues on Monday, before it was cut short. His path for next season will be very interesting, with a loan already suggested.

Estevao is trying to avoid having surgery on his hamstring problem so that he can race back and be fit for the World Cup – that’s a decision we’re really not sure about.
