AC Milan are set to sign João Félix on loan from Chelsea according to Fabrizio Romano. The two football powerhouses have been locked in talks about a deal for the 25-year-old all Deadline Day. Last Word on Football looks at the deal and assesses the impact it will have on both sides.
Felix has struggled for consistent minutes since joining Chelsea permanently six months ago. The 25-year-old has only started three Premier League games this season, scoring one goal and missing four big chances. He’s been much more prolific in the Conference League, scoring four goals in five games.
With the size of Chelsea’s squad, it is only natural that some players will be unhappy with their game time. Carney Chukwumeka looks set to join Borussia Dortmund on loan. The Blues have also turned down bids for forward Christopher Nkuku. Felix is on a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge so letting him find his form and happiness out on loan is a smart move.
The move for Felix will help Milan add some much-needed attacking firepower to their side. Their forwards have failed to find their tune this season, with just 20 goals between the six of them. Midfielder Tijjani Reijnders is their top scorer with seven league goals. The incoming Portuguese international has matched that tally in limited minutes for the Blues this term.
Felix will be hoping to lead a late push for Champions League qualification. Milan currently sit 8th in Serie A but will hope the newly formed partnership between Portuguese forward Rafael Leao can fire them up the table. The incoming Chelsea loanee will replace Alvaro Morate at the San Siro. The 32-year-old joined Galatasaray earlier on deadline day.
