Gianfranco Zola is on Sky Sports duties tonight for Chelsea Brentford, and he was asked for his thoughts on one player – Facundo Buonanotte makes his debut for the Blues tonight after arriving on loan from Brighton on deadline day.
Zola was positive about the attacking midfielder, although without offering much detail.
“I liked him very much when he played for Brighton. He’s one of those players who can really change a game. It will be really interesting to see how he fits in at Chelsea,” the Blues legend said.
As fellow pundit Jaime Redknapp then pointed out, it’s amazing how football can change. After getting loaned out to Leicester and then relegated last season, Buonanotte was probably wondering what his future was. Now he’s starting for Chelsea, just 2 weeks after signing.
“He’s a good player and he can really have a lot of joy at Chelsea because of the way we play, so I’m really looking forward to seeing him,” Zola concluded.
The “way we play” hasn’t been good for all attacking players, but we certainly control the ball enough to allow him to shine.
With so many players out injured or fatigued, the 20 year old will never get a better chance to show Enzo Maresca and the fans what he can do. This is his moment, in the hole behind the striker in a London derby.
He apparently scored 3 in a midweek training game which may have been why Maresca went for him today.
Now it’s down to the player to do that in a competitive game, under the lights in a Saturday night game. Good luck, Facundo…
