2025 is the year for Omari Glasgow to make a name for himself in Major League Soccer.

Already Guyana’s all-time leading goalscorer in international competitions, the Chicago Fire’s winger has a lot to prove in the first year of the MLS deal he signed in the offseason after three seasons in MLS Next Pro with Chicago Fire II.

Glasgow, 21, notched 15 goals in his three MLS Next Pro seasons as Chicago Fire II developed into one of the stronger sides in the league over that period but the time was right for him to take the next step by signing a first-team deal in the offseason.

The winger has yet to generate a goal contribution in any of his six MLS appearances in 2025 and the Fire director of football and head coach Gregg Berhalter noted after the club’s loss to the New York Red Bulls that Glasgow needs to work on being “more clinical” in front of goal in order to take the next step in his career.

“My composure in the final third, that was some of the things me and the coaching staff are working on,” Glasgow told On Tap Sports Net. “Working with me with my composure in the final third, and putting myself in the right position to be deadly at times. So those were some of the things I need to improve on, and I think I'm getting there step by step.”

Glasgow was inches away from an assist in New Jersey when his 75th-minute cross fell just behind Tom Barlow in front of the RBNY net. Though he was so close to helping his side get a result on the road, Glasgow understands that those goal contributions will come.

“I just gotta keep going and be patient, you know? I'm thinking about the team at the moment. So if I were gonna get that assist, I think it would've been a great deal for me and the team because we'll eventually win the game. But just think, we gotta keep being patient, and it will come.”

Glasgow is already a historic figure in Guyana’s soccer world.

He is the all-time leading goalscorer for his nation in international competition, but they just had a tough international window in which they fell 4-3 on aggregate to Guatemala in their CONCACAF Gold Cup Prelims, keeping them out of this year’s Gold Cup. After Guyana had to navigate the lower levels of CONCACAF to get to the precipice of Gold Cup qualification, Glasgow saw that they needed to bring a higher level when they’re back in international competitions.

“You could see that the level is a different type of ball game, so we gotta adapt. But I think the national team is working hard to get to that level. But it doesn't happen overnight, so we just have to keep working and keep going.”

Luton Town striker Isaiah Jones scored all three of Guyana’s goals against Guatemala, and Glasgow says the veteran has helped his development over the last year.

“I've been learning a lot from him, too. He's been teaching a lot of things, trying to help my game also. And he has a lot of experience. He played in the top league in England, The Championship, in the Premiership. So I just think learning from him every trip with the national team has been helping my game also.”

2025 should be a strong season for Glasgow. He’s already become one of the first options off the bench for Gregg Berhalter and has come quite close to getting that first goal contribution in MLS. More than anything, Glasgow wants to win in 2025.

“Helping the team win in any way possible, if it's by scoring goals, getting an assist, putting in a tackle, playing games. So I just think making a team win in any way possible, that's my goal.”
