Omari Glasgow has spent the last three seasons impressing with Chicago Fire II in MLS Next Pro, but the winger made history on Friday night in the CONCACAF Nations League Play-In.
Glasgow, who will turn 21 on Nov. 22, scored two goals for Guyana in their 4-1 win in the first leg of their Nations League Play-In against Barbados, making the winger the all-time leading goal-scorer for his nation with 19.
Barbados went up 1-0 in the 17th minute through Niall Reid-Stephen but Glasgow helped Guyana level things in the 26th minute. Osaze De Rosario played a quick pass back to Glasgow at the edge of Barbados’ penalty area and the winger ripped a left-footed effort past goalkeeper Corey Bridgeman to tie Nigel Codrington with 18 goals for his home country.
Glasgow became Guyana’s top goal-scorer in the 59th minute after hammering a close-range shot after a few deflections in the penalty area. That second tally gave Guyana the lead for good despite being the youngest player to start for his side.
Glasgow and Guyana will now have to hold off Barbados in the second leg of their CONCACAF Nations League Play-In on Nov. 19 in Leonora, Guyana.
The winger’s contract with Fire II expired after the end of the 2024 MLS Next Pro season, so it remains to be seen what his future holds within club soccer.
