Wrexham A.F.C. is slowly growing in English football thanks to the investment of popular chairmen Robert McElhenneyand Ryan Reynolds. The two popular actors have been helping the club grow and are currently in the EFL Championship.

Reaching the EFL Championship, one tier level below the Premier League, is seen as such a great achievement that the club started to look for notable names to join the squad this past summer.

One of the names the club was linked to was Danish attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen. Eriksen has experience in the top level of European football, playing for top clubs like Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, and Manchester United.

Despite being linked to a move to Wrexham this summer, Eriksen reportedly rejected them and instead joined Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga in September as a free agent.

Wrexham chief executive Michael Williamson revealed the reason why Eriksen rejected the idea of playing for Wrexham this past summer.

Reason Christian Eriksen Rejected Wrexham

In That Wrexham Podcast, Wrexham A.F.C. chief executive Michael Williamson revealed that Eriksen was not keen on joining the club due to Wrexham being linked with Hollywood actors.

Eriksen's team was not interested in joining as they reportedly believed the club wanted to do a documentary on the Danish player.

Williamson said, "What was really interesting in the first call is the reaction was, 'We don't want his story to be in a documentary, because we've had plenty of opportunities for a documentary for his story."

Williamson insists that the interest of Eriksen to the club was not to create a documentary on the player. Many fans assume that Eriksen's team is referring to the player collapsing on the pitch for Denmark in the 2020 Euros.

Williamson said, "He thought we were calling not because of his footballing capabilities but because we wanted a documentary story. I'm like: 'Wait a minute. I didn't even think about that.' Obviously, I'm aware of it, but that wasn't the reason we were calling."
