Christian Eriksen trains with Brentford for first time after Premier League return

Midfielder Christian Eriksen completed a remarkable return to the Premier League when he officially signed for Brentford last week roughly seven months after he suffered cardiac arrest featuring for Denmark at the UEFA European Championship last June and nearly lost his life.

Per Simon Collings of the Evening Standard (h/t Yahoo Sports), Eriksen trained with his new Brentford teammates for the first time on Monday. Brentford are preparing to face reigning Premier League champions Manchester City on Wednesday, but it's unknown when the Danish maestro, who turns 30 years old next Monday, will debut for his new employer.

Eriksen previously spent seven years with Tottenham Hotspur before he joined Serie A club Inter Milan in January 2020. Inter terminated his contract by mutual consent on Dec. 17 because rules prevent him from playing professionally in Italy with the type of implantable cardioverter defibrillator he had installed last year following his cardiac event.

The Premier League has no such guidelines regarding those devices.

"It is hard to say when he is available. I will know a lot more after Monday. I hope weeks, a few weeks, but I don’t know," Brentford manager Thomas Frank said of Eriksen's eventual status last week.

Both Brentford and Eriksen shared posts on social media after Monday's training session:

Brentford sit 14th in the Premier League table on 23 points, eight points clear of the relegation zone.
